Bio-Fuels Transfer Meter Nutating disc meters are the most common type of positive displacement meter. They operate by having a disc mounted to a central ball inside of a spherical chamber. Fluid flows into the chamber, where fluid pressure causes the disc to wobble (make a nutating motion) and complete a full cycle. Thus, each disc nutation will represent a fixed quantity of fluid, so the total flow can be calculated by multiplying the the total number of disc rotations times the known volume. A mechanical or electromagnetic sensor detects the rocking of the pin and relays the count to a register.

These type of meters require little maintenance, while providing an excellent level of accuracy and repeatability. How well the disc seals against the chamber determines the accuracy of the meter. Automatic batching systems are common applications for nutating disc meters. Capacity (pipe size) and higher flow-rates can be limiting factors, as bigger chambers are required to prevent pressure loss.

Bio-Fuels Transfer Meter Turbine Meters

Turbine meters, one of the oldest meters, consist of very few parts. The only moving part of a turbine meter is the rotor, which is mounted on a shaft and rotates freely on a bearing. This assembly is mounted onto stators inside of a housing. As the fluid passes through the housing, the force of the current causes the rotor to spin and a sensor detects the rotor speed.

Unlike positive displacement meters, which measure the volumetric flow rate by moving the fluid through chambers of known size, turbine meters are measuring the velocity of the fluid flow and then converting that rate into a volumetric measurement. Therefore, all turbine meters must allow the rotor to spin without restriction and have some method of detecting the rotational speed. Turbine meters can be used for a wide range of applications and fluids due to their compact size, high accuracy ratings, and high flow rate capability, but are not very good metering high viscosity fluids or fluids with debris.

A low battery level alert will Notify the user when it is time to change the batteries.

    Put these on all my farm’s transfer pumps. Small, easy to read, easy to use. Only had them 4 mon so I don’t know how well they hold up, but they seem pretty tough and well made

    Small compact, I placed it at the pump discharge not on the nozzle. Has a nice rubber ring around it to help if something accidentally bumps it.So far it is working GREAT!
