“Necessity is not the mother of invention, invention is the mother of necessity.” These are the words of one of Casio’s founders. The people who created Casio were determined to ‘invent necessity’- to create products that met latent needs with groundbreaking capabilities no one had ever seen before. Ever since, Casio has been doing just that, bringing new discovery and delight to people around the world. This is Casio’s way of building an even more prosperous, richly rewarding world.

Born from a dream of “creating a watch that never breaks.” It was over 30 years ago, a CASIO engineer won the battle against the laws of nature. He designed a watch that would resist centrifugal and impact forces, as well as high water pressure. Since then, the name G-SHOCK has become a byword for independence and pushing the limits.

G-SHOCK watches are the most durable digital and analog-digital watches in the industry, trusted by military personnel, law enforcement, surfers and outdoor enthusiasts around the world. Along with this, G-SHOCK is highly touted in the fashion world, worn by icons in hip-hop, sports, and design. With limited edition collaborations being released often, you can always find a G-SHOCK that matches your personality and style.

I have had this watch for more than a month, now. I did not find the watch difficult to set the time, or to use any of the other features. I read the manual one time for how to set the time initially, and the rest of the features I figured out intuitively.FIT:I find the watch to fit me very comfortably. I do not have large wrists. There are 11 sizing holes on the wristband, and I wear it on the 5th smallest one. I am 6’0″ and about 190lbs. The plastic band does not get hot or cold like a metal band does. I probably tend to sweat under the plastic band more than I would a metal band, but it is also much lighter.READABILITY:I find the backlight to be more than adequate in low/no light situations. When the hands have been in the light, they glow brightly.BATTERY:As I received my watch, it has read HI for the battery life. I wear it all day at work, usually with long-sleeved dress shirts. Sometimes my sleeve covers the watch, sometimes it doesn’t. Point is: it rarely sits in direct light, but gets light intermittently most of the day. Then it sits in the dark overnight. The battery still has always read HI every time I check.LOOKS:I find the watch to have a rugged appearance. Looks like something you would expect to see in the military. Personally, I like the look a lot.SIZE:It’s a fairly big watch. The screen/lens is at least 50% bigger than an American $0.25 quarter.DURABILITY:I can’t speak to how durable it is, really. What I can say, however, is that I have smacked my wrist quite hard into filing cabinets or other large metal objects. When these times have happened, I thought to myself, “Uh oh, I bet I just cracked the screen or the bezel.” Each time so far, the watch has endured flawlessly. As I inspect the watch closely, I can see very minor scuff marks. From a glance, you would never see them. I had to look with the intent of finding scratches to see mine.Overall, for ~$35 or so, I highly recommend this watch.

I bought this watch in 2013. That’s right. 7 YEARS ago. And It STILL works perfect and it floors me. I’ve bought watches of all kind, even very expensive ones and I keep telling people the best watch I’ve ever bought is my $40 Casio. The solar power is amazing and I love it because You never have to change a battery. If you keep it in a drawer or it’s without light for a while it’ll fall into sleep mode. But once any kind of light hits the face, it automatically turns on and the hands auto adjust to the correct time. This watch has taken a beating over 7 years being tested in every environment. As you can see from the photo, it’s been pretty worn out. I’ll probably get a new one just because of the newness. But I really don’t need to. Extremely reliable and an amazing watch, I love it. Highly recommend

This is my second Casio of this model. It has been a durable part of my EDC (Every Day Carry) for the last several years. I thought I lost it, but then found it tucked away in a drawer. It had no sunlight, so the battery died. I had worn off the lettering on the face which said it was “Solar” and opened it up to replace the battery. This caused some difficulties. Anyway, I weighed the cost of a new battery for an older watch against a new watch and decided to replace it. These watches have a lot a features (Stop Watch, Timer, Alarms, etc). The time is set using a function of where you are geographically. Initial set can be a little flustering. I recommend going to the Casio website and downloading the manual in a pdf format. It is easier to read than the micro printed manual included with the watch.

The watch is accurate and stylish and I am fond of the additional electronic features such as the alarms, battery indicator and time zones. The price was decent and worth every penny. The digital display illuminates yellow and the analog hands produce a fluorescent green. The watch beeps whenever a button is depressed and the hands rotate automatically once the time is set. The band adjusts easily and is composed of soft rubber. I highly recommend this wrist watch!

I wanted a manly looking analog watch whose battery would last a while before having to replace, and this fit my needs perfectly. The cost of this watch also gives you good value for your money. No quite as large as the typical G shock, but hefty looking just the same…

Really good quality watch! So it has held up very well my the harsh work environment. I’ve had no problems or issues with this watch at all, and for the price, you can’t beat it! I purchased 2 more to give as gifts to friends. It is multi-lingual, which is the main reason I tried this watch. Another good feature is the end of the watchband stays in place and doesn’t pop out! It has all of the usual other features, world time, stop-watch, day-date, etc. Just choose your time zone, and it automatically sets it’s own time! If it doesn’t, just set the digital time to the correct time, and the analog hands will auto-set, simple! Highly recommended!

I’ve had one for several years (since June, 2013), and been very satisfied. I travel for business, and the world time feature means I can easily toggle between East and West coast times. The main time dial is easy to read without my reading glasses. (The little “details” window less so! :-). I’ve never done anything special to keep it charged, and never had any problems with the battery, except when I left it in a drawer for a couple of months… when I took it out the hands were “parked” at noon/midnight, and when I put it in the sun for a couple of minutes it “woke up” and automatically set itself to the correct local time. Amazing, it had actually mostly shut down, but kept the local time going in the background, so it could reset itself automatically! Very cool. The weakest part of this watch has been the strap, which started cracking right at the part that “kinks” at the buckle, after about 3 years. During that time I was engaged in a full house restoration, so it also had seen a good share of hard wear. I ordered a replacement strap, which came with new pins, and since then I’ve made a point of not tightening it too hard, so less tension on the bend at the buckle.I just saw this watch on a special for $20, so have ordered a replacement, even though my original is still going strong, albeit with numerous “scars” and the lettering all worn off. I’ll use the new one for work/travel, and keep the old one for outdoors/weekend/DIY use.

This is a large dial, easy to read, solar charging watch. I’ve owned a Casio waverider so setting up this one was easy.It needed a day in the window in full sun to charge up initially. I used toothpaste to remove the graphics of “Solar Tough” and “Illuminated” from around the dial.I have not used the timer functions as I have no need for them at this time 😮.It appears to keep excellent time as I would expect of a Casio watch. The price is also very good.

I did a lot of looking around before choosing this watch. This was by far the best deal I found for the quality and features. I’ve already put it through days of manual labor (digging holes and such) and washed it off making it look like new again. This watch is very tough and will not break with normal use. I like the feature of digital military time as I use this for work. It’s very easy to toggle through date, timer, stopwatch and alarms. The watch is a little bigger than I’m used to but I don’t really notice it. The band itself is comfortable on my wrist. The display light feature is very nice; it stays on for two seconds to conserve battery. This is my first solar powered watch so I will be updating this review again.Update: it’s now been over six months since my purchase and I am still very pleased. It still keeps good time. I’ve worn it everyday, in the shower or swimming and no condensation or fogging of the lens has occurred. If it gets dirty I wash it with soap and water. The band has held up to a lot of abuse and physical labor. No damage shows whatsoever. The lens however now has a couple small marks on it but are hard to see. The battery has remained at full power…no issues there. I have worn it so much that I have a tan line to remind me I’m not wearing it! I STILL strongly recommend.

Great price for a sturdy & capable watch. No battery to replace, the face is a solar cell and the watch goes to sleep if stored in a dark area. Bring it into the light and it recovers immediately. I really like the world time feature, tap the top two buttons and it jumps to the time zone. In other words, a quick pinch of the watch as I exit the plane and I’m on local time and the same on the return trip. Brilliant. One drawback – the light is only for the digital window, not the whole face. Not a big deal since the hands glow in the dark but it might irritate you if you need or expect the full face to be lit.I like it so much I replaced it like for like the same day I broke my first one (the break was my fault, given what I unintentionally did to it there’s no way I can blame the watch).Watch the reviews on Youtube and then buy this watch.
