    Love it – student loved researching and building it. I went with this model for the lower price – the more modern looking turbine model was more than twice the cost; however, in researching, many similar looking windmills from the past were studied, so it tied in ok. The model is fantastic, and contained the main components discussed in all the “how does it work” materials on actual turbines, with clear plastic parts for easy viewing.

    I bought this to demonstrate mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion in a classroom setting. It is perfect for this, as the mechanism is clearly visible.We used an electric fan to produce the wind, since it was too cold to go outdoors. This had the advantage that we were able to vary the wind speed and therefore LED intensity.The students (age 11) really “got it” once they saw this.That being said, don’t plan on using this for any practical purpose other than learning: it takes a lot of wind to turn on the tiny LED.

    My niece loves this thing all the other science kits we got her this year. Her to her mom: “Why can’t you be like uncle Bulrush and get me such awesome presents?” lol. I now buy all her presents and let other family members give them to her. I hope to encourage my niece into more science pursuits.

    I like these types of items because my grandson is very into building things and these STEM projects are buildable projects that are somewhat easy and can be turned into useful items. They also are teaching tools.

    I bought this kit as a demonstration for our science unit on renewable/nonrenewable energy. I put it together at school in about twenty minutes, including having to take the unit apart because I put it together wrong. (Totally my fault.) The kit was made of high quality materials. The instructions were adequate. When the kit was put together, it could be demonstrated for the class merely by spinning by hand, or by using a fan. It worked outside during the onset of a rainstorm. I did not set it down as the base (empty soda bottle) is too light to withstand the wind. I would suggest filling the base with sand for stability if you wanted to set it down. I would buy other kits from this company.
